Hoosiers,

From a combine in Shelby County to an airport groundbreaking in Richmond, I’ve spent the past few weeks meeting with people across the Sixth District. Those conversations help guide my work in Washington: making homes more affordable, protecting savings from scammers, and improving local infrastructure.

Here’s an update:

A PRACTICAL APPROACH TO BUILDING MORE HOMES

Building a home costs enough. Lengthy permitting delays add to the bill.

I introduced the bipartisan Build More Homes Act to study how preapproved home designs can reduce delays and construction costs. These designs give builders a starting point that local officials have already reviewed. The bill would identify what works and how more communities, including rural towns, could benefit.

The goal is straightforward: less time waiting on paperwork and more homes families can afford.

TAKING AWAY SCAMMERS’ TOOLS

That “local” number on your phone may be an overseas scammer.

Devices called SIM boxes use hundreds of SIM cards to disguise calls as local. I introduced the Stop SIM Box Scams Act to ban these devices and help federal agencies keep them out of our country.

Scammers keep changing their tactics. Our efforts to stop them must keep pace.

GOING AFTER THE NETWORKS BEHIND THE SCAMS

Stopping scam calls is one part of the job. Going after the criminal networks behind them is another.

As Chairman of the Stop Scams Caucus, I hosted U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro for a briefing on the Justice Department’s Scam Center Strike Force. Her team targets overseas scam operations and follows the money they steal.

We discussed efforts to disrupt these networks and recover stolen funds. I appreciate her team’s work and partnership.

For the families affected, this is more than a crime statistic. It’s retirement savings. A college fund. Money earned over a lifetime.

STUDENT APP SUBMISSIONS DUE OCTOBER 26

There’s still time to enter the 2026 Congressional App Challenge.

Middle and high school students who live or attend school in the Sixth District can compete individually or on a team, using any programming language.

Submit your app by noon Eastern on Monday, October 26.

SCENES FROM THE SIXTH

Harvest Time in Shelby County

Phil Ramsey let me take the wheel of a combine at Ramsey Farms, his family’s sixth-generation operation in Shelby County.

The Ramseys grow corn, soybeans, wheat, and sunflowers, and produce seed for Beck’s. I appreciate Phil and his sons making time during one of their busiest stretches of the year.

A New Terminal for Richmond

We broke ground on a new terminal at Richmond Municipal Airport, replacing one that is 80 years old.

The city did the work to get this project ready. I advocated for the $1.4 million FAA award to help make it happen.

With approximately 15,000 aircraft operations a year, the airport is an important connection for eastern Indiana.

Setting Local Priorities for 2027

At the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in New Castle, I met with Hoosiers about funding priorities for roads, water and sewer improvements, and first responder equipment.

This Congress, I’ve advanced $56 million in proposed funding for Sixth District projects. There’s more work ahead to get those dollars across the finish line.

Local communities set the priorities. My job is to help move them forward.

Working with Johnson County’s Mayors

Franklin Mayor Steve Barnett and Greenwood Mayor Mark Myers visited my Washington office to discuss Johnson County’s infrastructure needs.

One priority is improving stormwater infrastructure in Franklin. I’ve advanced $1.1 million for that project through the House Appropriations Committee and am working to secure it in final legislation.

I value these partnerships. Mayors know their communities’ needs firsthand.
